LCIFF Poster Release Party: Meet The Artist - LasCruces.com

The Las Cruces International Film Festival is still a month and a half away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a preview. The local non-profit hosts its annual poster reveal party, this year at the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science in downtown Las Cruces, on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 6 to 9 p.m. In attendance will be guest artist Mary Beagle, who created the 7th annual festival poster.

Each year since 2017, the Las Cruces International Film Festival commissions a local artist to create the artwork for the commemorative poster. (There was no poster for the 2021 festival, because it was primarily a virtual event.) Originally from Connecticut, but now a New Mexico resident, Mary was tapped for the work she does primarily in oils. Her paintings reflect her love of Native and Latino cultures, by incorporating cultural designs into her compositions.

In addition to her work as a painter, Mary is a graduate of the Southwest Stone Carving Workshop in Jemez Springs, where she found a new medium of expression in limestone, alabaster, calcite, and marble. Her work has been shown in galleries in Connecticut, Santa Fe, and Las Cruces, as well as being featured in Southwest Art, Art of the West, and Cowboys and Indians magazines.

Mary joins an illustrious group of local artists who have lent their creative talents to this endeavor. Among them are airbrush fabulist Luis Navaro (2020), illustrator and public art advocate Christina Ballew (2019), landscape photographer Mike Groves (2018), and illustrator and graphic designer Jud Wright (2017). Each of these posters have become collectors’ items.

This year’s original poster artwork will be auctioned off at the event with the proceeds going to the film festival. Mary will be signing copies of the poster for event attendees. Tickets to the Poster Reveal Party are $25. VIP passes will be offered for $100 at the party. Food, drinks, and live music will accompany the festivities. For more information, visit the website, or call Ross Marks at 575-646-6149.
