Night School Film Series at the Fountain Theatre

Spend your Saturday nights at the Fountain Theatre this summer as Night School presents eight weeks of cult classics, horror favorites, and anniversary screenings celebrating the movie theater experience. The series runs July 11 through August 29. Admission is $8 per screening, or purchase a $50 “Full Tuition” discount card for all eight films. Mesilla Valley Audubon Bird Walk — Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park

Meet at the park Visitor’s Center at 8:00 a.m. to sign in with the group leader. Then, the leader will guide attendees and identify birds in the area. Wear sturdy shoes, bring binoculars if you have them (a few are available for loan), a bottle of water, and your curiosity. New Mexico State Parks charge a vehicle day-use fee of $5 for state residents and $10 for non-residents.

The Fellowship of Las Cruces Area Rocketry Enthusiasts (FLARE) offers a monthly launch in Las Cruces. These free launches are open to all ages and take place on the first Saturday of each month. Time: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Location: Waterfalls Discharge Basin on Las Cruces’s East Mesa.

Dark Sky Observe the Cosmos

Each month on the Saturday closest to the third quarter Moon, we open the Leasburg Dam observatory to the public. Members from the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces operate the 16″ Telescope and typically one or more telescopes just outside the observatory. With the Moon below the horizon and a clear sky, you can see the Milky Way galaxy just by looking up. Through the telescopes, you can see nebulae, globular clusters, planetary nebulae, and faraway galaxies. Time: 8 to 10 p.m. Location: Leasburg Dam State Park, Leasburg State Park Rd., Radium Springs, NM.

Wednesday Walks with a Ranger — Fort Selden Historic Site

Take part in ranger-led guided tours at Fort Selden Historic Site. The tour covers 1,400 years of history—from the Mogollon people, who began farming the area around 400 A.D., to the arrival of the Spanish in the late 1500s, and the presence of the U.S. military in the mid-1800s. The tour is included with general admission, which is $5 for adults. Admission is free for children 16 and under and for New Mexico residents over 60 on Wednesdays. Visitors are encouraged to dress in warm layers during cooler weather. Recurring weekly through November 26, 2026. Location: Fort Selden Historic Site. Time: 9 – 10 a.m.

Las Cruces Community Theatre —  Come from Away

Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. As the world grappled with tragedy, the residents of this isolated community welcomed the “come from aways” into their homes and lives. Featuring a lively folk-inspired score and fast-paced storytelling, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical celebrates hope, compassion, and the lasting impact of human kindness.

Tierra Legacy Continues Show & Dance Party

The Wrap at the Rio Grande Theatre

The Wrap is a monthly gathering for filmmakers and video creators in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County, presented by Film Las Cruces and the Rio Grande Theatre. The evening begins with a community forum followed by a screening of locally produced work, including short films, documentaries, music videos, commercials, student projects, and other video content. Filmmakers of all experience levels are encouraged to submit their work for screening. Time: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Location: 211 N Main St

Doña Ana Community College Welcome Back Bashes

DACC will welcome students back to campus with several welcome back bashes. Students and their families are welcome to attend the campus bashes at the following locations and days: Tuesday, August 11th: Gadsden Center, 1700 E. O’Hara Rd. in Anthony, NM from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Monday, August 17th: Espina Campus, 3400 S. Espina St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, August 18th: East Mesa Campus, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Attendees will be given free DACC swag and other giveaways, plus, there will be free Dion’s food for the first 75 individuals at each location. The bash will offer students an opportunity to tour each campus, meet with academic departments and student resources, and sit in on information sessions.

Doña Ana Community College invites students to learn about TimelyCare, a free virtual health and well-being service available to DACC students, faculty, and staff. TimelyCare provides virtual access to licensed medical providers and mental health professionals, including doctor visits, counseling, prescription discounts, and self-help resources. Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery

The Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery, 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe in Mesilla, will feature artists Sue Ann Glenn and Frank Rimbach throughout August. Glenn is a watercolorist and retired art educator, while Rimbach earned his Master of Fine Arts from New Mexico State University and has taught at Central Texas College and El Paso Community College. The gallery also features work by 30 artists in a variety of media, including painting, photography, ceramics, glass, jewelry, textiles, and woodturning. The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Branigan Cultural Center — Growing the Mesilla Valley: NMSU Extension Office Through the Years

The exhibit Growing the Mesilla Valley: NMSU Extension Office Through the Years at the Branigan Cultural Center highlights more than a century of agricultural and food-related history in Southern New Mexico, focusing on the role of the New Mexico State University Extension Office since 1914. On view from April 3 through August 15, the exhibit features historic publications covering recipes, gardening, livestock processing, food preservation, and home economics, along with photographs documenting farming operations and community education. Curated by Dr. Erin Wahl with contributions from NMSU students, the exhibit connects regional food traditions to the Extension Office’s ongoing mission to support New Mexico communities.

Art History: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is a student-curated exhibition featuring works from the NMSU Permanent Art Collection that examines how contemporary artists reinterpret and transform iconic artworks and themes from the past. Branigan Cultural Center — Into the Great White Sands

Into the Great White Sands: Photographs by Craig Varjabedian is on display at the Branigan Cultural Center through September 5, 2026. The exhibition features striking images of White Sands National Park, capturing its changing gypsum dunes, dramatic light, seasonal landscapes, historic architecture, and the people who visit this unique New Mexico destination. The collection showcases the award-winning work of New Mexico photographer Craig Varjabedian, whose photographs explore the beauty and character of one of the state’s most iconic landscapes.

Branigan Cultural Center — Land of the People

Land of the People is a long-term collaborative exhibition at the Branigan Cultural Center featuring the histories, cultures, and contemporary perspectives of six Indigenous groups with deep ties to the Borderland region. Through May 2027, visitors can explore a shared gallery on Indigenous traditions, stewardship, and cultural practices, along with a rotating featured exhibit that highlights one participating community every 12 weeks.

Current Rotation is through October 10, 2026: Land of the People: Naf’ole atsihem showcases the Piro-Manso-Tiwa Indian Tribe Pueblo of San Juan de Guadalupe, sharing its history, traditions, and connection to the land through the tribe’s own words and perspectives.

The Museum of Art Gallery — Dancing with Life: Mexican Masks

Explore Mexico’s festival traditions through historic and contemporary masks from the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture collection. Featuring bilingual Spanish and English interviews with mask makers and dancers, the exhibition examines danzas as living cultural expressions that reflect spirituality, community life, political issues, and influences from both religious traditions and popular culture. NMSU Art Gallery: Homage to Then/Small Worlds

Homage to Then/Small Worlds, a solo exhibition by local artist, former department head, and Professor Emeritus Louis Ocepek, is on display in the NMSU Art Museum’s Mullennix Bridge Gallery through Sept. 12. The two-part exhibition features gravure prints, gouache paintings, and digital works that reflect Ocepek’s artistic influences while exploring abstract interpretations of the physical and metaphysical world. Admission is free. The NMSU Art Museum is located at 1308 E. University Ave. and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mapping Spaces: Selections from the Lannan Art Collection at NMSU

This exhibit is on display in the NMSU Art Museum’s Contemporary Gallery through Sept. 5. The exhibition features works from a 2024 gift of 63 pieces from the Lannan Art Collection, showcasing artists whose work explores landscape, environment, documentary photography, and abstraction. The Mad Hatter Gallery — Dear Democracy/Dear America

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, The Mad Hatter Gallery presents Dear Democracy / Dear America, a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring New Mexico artists. Inspired by the format of greeting cards, the exhibit explores democracy through personal reflection and artistic expression, examining its achievements, challenges, contradictions, aspirations, and unfinished promises. The opening reception is on July 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The show goes through August 15.
