Discover Unique Places to Stay - LasCruces.com

Staycation rental properties have become popular over the last couple of years thanks to websites like Airbnb and Vrbo. The result is a seemingly endless selection of beautiful places to stay (big or small) across the country. The best part is that you don’t always have to stay in a traditional house. There are many unique places from which to choose, like tiny homes, dome houses, canvas tents, and even yurts! Southern New Mexico is no exception, with many interesting and unconventional places to stay.

STAY IN A DOME HOUSE

First up are dome homes. These three rentable dome houses are perfect for families, couples, or a group of friends. The best parts about them are the 360-degree views and the one-of-a-kind circular layouts.

If historical properties are your jam, then we have the perfect Airbnb for you. This stunning adobe house in downtown Las Cruces was built in 1887 as a Victorian-style home. When Numa and Clara Frenger bought it in 1930, Clara remodeled it into the Pueblo Revival (Santa Fe) style. Clara constantly worked on renovations to the home until she became too frail to do so. At one point, the house was leased to Vonnie and Lee, and they transformed the house into a gourmet restaurant called Vonnie Lee’s. In 1997, the Schlothauers, Janet and Gary, bought the property and brought it back to the Pueblo Revival style that Clara had envisioned. Now, Eric and Tamera own this quaint home. As the new stewards of this historical gem, they hope to retain its original beauty and keep it in good repair for travelers and friends from near and far to enjoy. The private outdoor space is perfect for sitting back and relaxing with a glass of wine or a good book. There is no kitchen, but the space has a coffee/tea bar, minifridge, and microwave for those delicious leftovers you may have, considering how close you are to restaurants. The multi-level layout adds to the uniqueness of the house, along with the original stone floors and handcrafted beams. Clara’s Nest is a lovely spot for a staycation or visit to Las Cruces.
