The Board of Directors of the Alamogordo Center of Commerce announced the cancellation of the White Sands Hot Air Balloon & Music Festival, which was scheduled for September 10-12, 2021. Citing recently implemented Covid-19 restrictions by the state of New Mexico, the Alamogordo Center of Commerce believed it impossible to hold a successful event and fully comply with the Governor’s mandates.
According to the official release, “tickets for this year’s event went on sale through Eventbrite on April 1 and had exceeded all expectations, with tickets being purchased from virtually every state in the Union and several countries. Although ticket sales clearly stated that those monies were non-refundable, the Alamogordo Center of Commerce has instructed Eventbright to immediately refund all ticket sales, as well as all vendor fees.”
In their announcement, the Board further stated, “we will regroup and immediately begin preparations for the next White Sands Balloon & Music Fest that will be held on the third weekend in September 2022.”
Meanwhile, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will continue as scheduled, October 2-10, with more than 500 colorful hot air balloons taking to the skies as promised.
