Velo Cruces, Inc., a nonprofit agency promoting the use of bicycles for commuting and recreation, hosts the first annual Bicycle Murals and More Contest in October, 2021. Contestants will bicycle to local murals and other public art, then fill out a bicycle bingo card by identifying the location of the mural or public art in each square. Contestants will then submit their bingo cards for random drawings to win one of three prizes for each part of the three-part event. The money raised will help Velo Cruces continue its mission to transform Las Cruces into a great bicycle and pedestrian community.
Registration fees will fund Velo Cruces, operations of The HUB Community Bike Shop, and support the Every Body Rides with Grace adaptive cycle donation program. The HUB has been affected by COVID-19 restrictions and currently is offering bike repair services from volunteers at low cost. The HUB accepts bicycle donations and sells restored bikes to support the shop and also has a program to donate bicycles to veterans, homeless, and other community members with limited financial means. Every Body Rides with Grace identifies children with disabilities that can benefit from riding adaptive bikes.
Early registration for the Bicycle Murals and More Contest continues through the end of September. Early registration is $20 and will increase to $25 on October 1. Late registration increases to $30 on October 8 and continues to the end of the event on October 31. For more information, or to register, visit the website or call 575-323-0883.
