If you’re 50 or older and eager to keep moving even when the weather’s cool, the Senior Olympic Winter Games are calling your name. Mark your calendar for February 23 – 26, 2026, as Santa Fe hosts this exciting event open to athletes from New Mexico and beyond.
What to Expect
Much like the Summer Games, the Winter Games are about staying active year-round, embracing camaraderie, and celebrating vitality, regardless of your age. While the full list of sports will be revealed soon, you can expect the same spirit of fitness, fun, and friendly competition that defines NMSO events.
Who Can Compete?
All events are open to men and women aged 50 and older. New Mexico is an “Open” state, so out-of-state athletes are always welcome, with all competition divided into five-year age divisions to keep things fair and balanced.
Dates & Registration
- When: February 23–26, 2026, in Santa Fe
- How to Register: Use the “Register Now” option on the Winter Games event page once registration opens
- Captain’s Meeting: Tournaments typically kick off with a captain’s meeting on the opening Friday. Check the NMSO site closer to the event for specifics.
- Fees: Expect team registration and per-player fees similar to those in past team events (e.g., $300 plus a small fee per player). NMSO will post official rates soon.
Why You’ll Love It
More than a competition, the Winter Games bring friends together, spark new friendships, and showcase what “old age” really looks like — active, engaged, and unstoppable. Participants earn custom medallions for first, second, and third place in each age division, just like in the Summer Games.
About NMSO
Now in its 44th year, the New Mexico Senior Olympics (NMSO) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Roswell. Its mission is to promote healthy, active lifestyles for adults aged 50 and older through sports, education, and camaraderie. NMSO’s State Games — winter and summer — are the
centerpiece of their athletic calendar.
NMSO is a sanctioned member of the National Senior Games Association. In even-numbered years (like 2026), the State Games serve as qualifiers for the National Senior Games. As an open-state sponsor, NMSO encourages participation from athletes across the country.
