With an old home comes rich history, and 4707 Grider is no different. The home was originally built in 1925 on a 78-acre lot. In October 1966, a fire destroyed most of the original one-and-a-half-story home. The contractor who rebuilt the home was able to salvage most of the original structure of the first floor. The home had new owners in 1973, then in 1977 the house and the remaining 1.38 acres were sold to the current owner. When she moved in, she got right to work making the neglected house comfortable and livable again.
The new homeowner’s first projects included expanding the underground irrigation system, repairing the well, building a front entrance to the home, adding a pool, and constructing a sunroom and a 600-square-foot guest cottage. The real remodel began in 2003. The entire middle portion of the house was demolished, from the dirt floor to the sky and that floor plan changed to become the staircase, bar, and an additional bathroom. The east end was expanded to include a kitchen and a second-story main bedroom suite was built. A laundry room and large porches were added. A new HVAC system was installed in 2015 in addition to re-roofing and building a new front porch. Long story short, it was a massive project.
The structure you see today is a work of art, completely designed and remodeled mostly by the homeowner. “It has taken over 40 years to bring what once was a distressed property to what it is today,” she notes. You can’t help but notice the little details throughout, such as the stained-glass windows and Victorian-style woodwork. The careful thought that went into the design of each spacious bedroom, living room, and bathroom is apparent. With so many places to relax inside and out, this home is guaranteed to become your happy place. Cozy up in the bright sunroom with your morning coffee and a book or head outside to catch some sun by the pool. Kids and pets will have a blast in the enormous private yard. The remodeled garage is the perfect workshop or hobby room, with ample space and electricity. The true beauty of this home can only be appreciated in person — so don’t wait!
