After a year’s absence, the El Paso Community Foundation’s Plaza Classic Film Festival returns to the Plaza Theatre, July 29 – August 8, 2021. Taking place in and around the historic Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso, the festival celebrates its 14th year as the world’s largest classic film festival. More than 480,000 people have attended the first 13 Plaza Classics, with about 15 percent of its audience coming from outside of the El Paso/Juarez/Las Cruces radius.
The Plaza Classic Film Festival also has become a major showcase for regional filmmakers through its Local Flavor series, sponsored by the Texas Film Commission. It screens features, shorts, documentaries and other projects, and its audience has tripled in recent years. Last year, Local Flavor handed out $1,750 in cash prizes to local filmmakers in the third annual Local Flavor Awards, sponsored by the Public Relations Association of the Southwest.
“As a long-time partner of the Plaza Classic Film Festival, El Paso Live is beyond excited to welcome this event back to our venues,” said Bryan Crowe, General Manager for El Paso Live. “The Plaza Classic Film Festival is a staple in our community and we can’t wait to welcome movie-goers in the late summer.”
This year, the festival will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Raiders Of The Lost Ark in dazzling 4k. Also on the docket are Groundhog Day, Big Sleep, Shaun of the Dead, Forrest Gump, Saturday Night Fever, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Star Wars: A New Hope, The Lady Eve, Doctor Zhivago, West Side Story, Meet Me in St. Louis and many more. Tickets range from $4 to $10, depending on age, days and times. Passes are also available. For more information, including movie schedule, visit the website.
