Nestled near a predominantly agricultural area a stone’s throw from Picacho Mountain on the far west side of Las Cruces is the desirable Picacho Hills neighborhood. This upscale conclave of homes features both gated and ungated subdivisions, with original homes built 30 years ago and many brand-new houses.

Picacho Hills Views

One of the key reasons so many people want to live in Picacho Hills is the amazing views of the valley and the Organ Mountains to the east. Here, you can sip a cocktail or glass of wine at the end of the day and watch the colorful Southwest sunset reflecting on the dramatic spires of the mountains. At night, the city lights twinkle gaily as the mountains fade into darkness.

A Quiet Neighborhood

Because it is set miles from the busy part of the city and bordered on the east by agricultural fields, Picacho Hills is a quiet area to live. No main drags with heavy traffic can be found here and the streets tend to wind through the developments, following the gentle curves of the hills.

Lifestyle

Picacho Hills is a walkable community where people know their neighbors. Due to its proximity to Picacho Peak Recreation Area, there are many hiking and horseback riding trails that can be easily accessed for outdoor adventures. The historic town of Mesilla and the Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park, which offers wildlife viewing and hiking, are also not far from Picacho Hills.

There’s even a resident artist group that holds an Art in the Garden art sale each May and a Holly Day Open House, which raises funds for local charities.

Homes in Picacho Hills

Home prices are higher here than in many other neighborhoods in Las Cruces, thanks in part to the attraction of living in an area that surrounds Picacho Hills Country Club. Homes here tend to hold their value due to the desirability of the area.

Picacho Hills has duplexes that overlook the golf course fairways and large homes with three and four-car garages in gated communities. Potential homebuyers have a lot of choices and may even find a lot available on which to build their dream home.

Shopping and Dining Out

While the most convenient restaurant is certainly the one at Picacho Hills Country Club, there are several restaurants and bars to be found in the area, including some tucked into the edges of the development itself.

There are convenience stores and pharmacies not far away, but visiting a grocery store will be more of a trek from Picacho Hills. But it’s all relative as Downtown Las Cruces, where museums, art galleries, theaters, and the weekly Farmers & Crafts Market can be found, is only about 10 minutes away!
