Looking to enjoy beautiful fall weather paired with history and jazz? The Mesilla Jazz Happening is the perfect event. Hosted by the Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blue Society, this free festival aims to promote appreciation of jazz and blues music while providing patrons with food, activities for kids, art vendors, and more. The Mesilla Jazz Happening takes place in the Mesilla Plaza, October 1 – 2, 2022, noon to 6 p.m.
Every year the Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blues Society presents music, art vendors, food, and activities in the Mesilla Plaza. The key word here is music! Local and traveling musicians stake out territory at different times and venues throughout Mesilla, for an entire weekend. Not only does the event provide an opportunity to widen your musical horizons, it also brings recognition and revenue to local businesses. Like what you hear? Grab a bite, or a drink, or just do some light shopping. It’s all there for you.
Since the very first event in 2000, the festival strives to promote an appreciation of jazz and blues music while also supporting aspiring musicians. Keeping it free has been the goal all along. The Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society works with local businesses and patrons to make the event possible, with many providing such essentials as sound systems, tents, and security. In addition, the MVJBS also provides yearly scholarships to NMSU students in the Jazz studies program.
Due to the limited seating in Mesilla Plaza, it’s recommended for patrons to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Keep an eye out for a full rundown of the acts performing over the weekend, as they become available.
