Meow Wolf lovers, we have exciting news for you! Here’s the latest (May 11, 2022) announcement from the folks at our favorite local multiverse!

MEOW WOLF ANNOUNCEMENT

It’s happenin’ pardner! Meow Wolf is fixin’ to hang our hat and saddle up our horse in the Lone Star State.

In 2023, a brand new permanent Meow Wolf installation will be reclaiming the space of a former big-box retail store at Grapevine Mills in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to create our own take on reality.

Our exhibit will be joining other experiences like LEGOLAND Discovery Center and SEA LIFE Aquarium inside the mall.

But, why a mall, Meow Wolf? We love malls, and have always loved malls.

In the words of Meow Wolf Founder and ’80s kid, Vince Kadlubek, “Malls have been such an incredible and weird part of the American story, especially for a lot of us that grew up in the ’80s and ’90s. It is an exciting thought that these spaces could be filled with incredible art and immersive experiences, opening a new era of opportunity for the creative economy. We felt like Meow Wolf could help lead the way.

Texas native and Meow Wolf Founder/Senior Creative Director, Matt King, moved to New Mexico after high school, where he met the rest of the group who would later form a DIY art collective called Meow Wolf.

“Fast forward to today and we have grown that little art collective into a pioneer of the immersive arts and entertainment industry with a mission to build community through art,” said King. “I could not be happier to bring Meow Wolf back to the place that I grew up to be a positive addition to my first community.”

But…since it’s such a big state, we couldn’t choose just one new location in Texas.

“Meow Wolf has always been about making art accessible to as many folks as possible, and in areas that may not have as many artistic offerings. [We] could’ve easily considered areas like Deep Ellum or The Arts District, but thought this was a great opportunity to impact a whole new audience with our work,” said Kadlubek.

We’ll be opening our fifth permanent exhibition in the Fifth Ward of Houston in 2024.

The Fifth Ward is an historical district dating back to the late 1800s that has been transformed into an arts and cultural destination in recent years.
