The holiday season does not look the same for everyone in our community, and if you have the time and resources to donate to those less fortunate, here are some ways you can help.

Casa de Peregrinos was started in 1979 by four people in La Mesa, New Mexico, who wanted to provide shelter, food, and supplies to people who are homeless or transient. More than 40 years and millions of meals later, Casa de Peregrinos continues to be one of Southern New Mexico’s brightest beacons of hope. Every year since 1997, the organization’s Hope for the Holidays food drive has provided Thanksgiving baskets to families. The baskets include a turkey, stuffing, canned vegetables, and a 5-pound bag of yams. In 2021, the program distributed more than 4,000 baskets and it’s looking to break that record this year. For information on Casa de Peregrinos programs or to donate or volunteer, visit casadeperegrinos.org or call 575-523-5542.

La Casa Inc. is a domestic abuse shelter that offers services and support for those affected by violence and abuse at home. La Casa Inc. will host its 30th annual Holiday Bazaar arts and crafts sale at the Las Cruces Convention Center on December 3 – 5. For information on the bazaar or to learn more about La Casa, Inc., call 800-376-2272 or 575-526-9513 or go to lacasainc.org.

Tutti Bambini is a children’s store where caring citizens can donate children’s clothing and other goods, which are then sold or used by area children and families in need. All proceeds from the Tutti Bambini store also provide more than a dozen resource centers with clothing vouchers for their clientele to shop. For more information, call 575-556-9752 or visit in person at 300 El Molino Blvd., Las Cruces.

We cannot forget our furry friends during the cold months of winter. Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary (SHAS) is a no-kill animal sanctuary that provides a place for pets until a forever home is found. SHAS’s mission is to find permanent, responsible homes for animals without one, and to promote humane principles and behavior toward pets. The holidays offer an opportune time to help our four-legged friends with food, toys, and if you are able, a loving forever home. For information, call 575-805-5338 or visit shaspets.com.

Thank you for your support over the past year, and we wish you all a happy holiday season!
