Borderlands wine aficionados raise a glass every year over Labor Day Weekend, as the Las Cruces Harvest Wine Festival takes over the Southern NM State Fairgrounds. This ticketed event features over 100 of New Mexico’s finest wines, direct from 16 New Mexico wineries, giving samples and selling by the glass and the bottle. Enjoy grape stomping, arts and crafts vendors, children’s activities, food trucks and live music, from indie to jazz, throughout each day, August 31 – September 2, 2024, 12 to 6 p.m.
The Harvest Wine Festival is a three-day event with something for every palate! Take your pick from a wide selection of red, white and sparkling wines, that range from soft and sweet to bold and dry. What better way to discover the range of flavors the various temperate zones create in this multi-faceted state? Remember, we do have the oldest wine producing record in the country!
Wineries represented are some of the finest in the state, including Heart of the Desert, Ponderosa Valley Vineyards, Jaramillo Vineyards, Wines of the San Juan, Lescombes, Noisy Water, St. Clair, Tularosa Vineyards, Luna Rossa, Amaro and more. In addition, some of the best musicians from throughout the region perform throughout the weekend, with a wide selection of tunes from Country to Indie, and Reggae to Jazz.
In addition to the wine and song, the festival offers food trucks and over 30 vendors, selling everything from jewelry, yard art and clothing, to beef jerky, biscochitos and more. If you’ve never stomped grapes in your bare feet, the opportunity to do so is a big draw for brave, or sufficiently lubricated, attendees.
As an added bonus, the New Mexico Wine & Grape Growers Association has created a new scholarship program in partnership with New Mexico State University. The association will donate $1 from every ticket sold to the Las Cruces Harvest Wine Festival to NMSU’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management Department. Scholarships will be awarded to NMSU students with a focus on food and beverage studies who qualify for the HRTM Departmental Scholarship.
With your general admission ticket, you get a commemorative wine glass, a voucher for $5 off any bottle of wine, and unlimited tastings. Just remember to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated, our New Mexico sun is nothing to sneeze at!
