The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) announces seven new art and culture courses for the 2021 spring semester. The FEED YOUR MIND courses start the week of January 18, 2021 and include World Art, Mesoamerican Art, Great Mexican Artists, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, The Art of Japan, and Trost’s Architectural Legacy in Las Cruces and El Paso. All courses are online via Zoom. Registration is online at https://www.daarts.org/classes-workshops/ or by calling the DAAC office at (575) 523-6403.
The cost is $5 per class or free of charge for DAAC members who have joined at the Heart for Art level ($101 annually) or higher. All classes will be recorded and emailed to students after each class. The recordings give students a chance to make up missed sessions or to start the course after the initial start date. Two returning instructors from the Feed Your Mind program will teach in the spring of 2021: Kathleen Key, art history professor at University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), and Nicholas Dahle, who, along with Ms. Key, also teaches at UTEP’s OLLI Continuing Education Program.
The Art of Japan with Nicholas Dahle is six weeks on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. starting 3/3/21 and ending 4/7/21. A course description from Mr. Dahle:
Come and explore the artwork of the land of the rising sun. Learn about Japan’s rich cultural traditions and its various art forms: painting, theater, fashion, ceramics, gardens, architecture, sculpture and so much more!
