Hundreds of bicycle enthusiasts worldwide hit the roads for the Ride of Silence, to honor fallen cyclists, Wednesday, May 18, 2022, 6:15 p.m. For 20 years cyclists have been riding in a silent procession on the third Wednesday of May, to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. First organized in Dallas, in 2003, after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and killed, the Ride of Silence is a free event that asks cyclists to ride no slower than 12 mph, and no faster than 15 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the entire ride. Taking place during National Bike Month, the ride aims to raise awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways, while also showing respect for and honor the lives of those who have fallen. Riders are asked to meet at the Mesilla Plaza no later than 6:15 p.m. to begin the procession. For more information, visit the website.
