The October 2021 exhibition at the Doña Ana Arts & Cultural Center features the work of Jo-an Smith. Smith, a well-known artist in Las Cruces, grew up in the Pacific Northwest but frequently moved until landing in Las Cruces in 1972. Smith received her BA in Art from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1971 and went on to earn her Masters in Art from New Mexico State University in 1975. She was a designer and resident artist at The Cutter Gallery for 43 years until the gallery closed its doors in 2019. The show will be mainly paintings (watercolors, oil, and alcohol inks) with some additional enamel jewelry and drawings. The exhibition will run through the entire month of October 2021.
The Doña Ana Arts & Cultural Center and DAAC administrative offices are located at 250 W. Amador, Las Cruces, NM, and open Monday through Fridays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and on the second Saturday of every month 12-5 p.m. The Arts Council will extend its hours until 8pm on Oct 1, 2021 to participate in the First Friday Arts Ramble and will also hold an artist reception on Oct 9, 2021 from 12-5 p.m. For more information, visit the website, or call the DAAC office at 575-523-6403.
