El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Festival - LasCruces.com

El Paso Pro-Musica celebrates Zuill Bailey’s 20th anniversary as Artistic Director with a Chamber Festival throughout both El Paso and Las Cruces, January 8 – 28, 2022. Traditionally a form of classical music composed for a small group of instruments, usually piano and strings, chamber music has filled palace chambers and private halls with beautiful music since the 17th century. The tradition continues, as this series of intimate performances across state lines attests. Be a part of it!

Las Cruces’ own Camerata Del Sol kicks off the festival with a free appearance at the El Paso Museum of Art’s Bach’s Lunch Thursday, January 13, 12 – 1:30 p.m., then another festival appearance at the Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall, Sunday, January 16, 2 – 4 p.m. They will follow that up with a Las Cruces show featuring classics by Piazzola, Turine and more, at the Double Eagle, Wednesday, February 9, 6 – 8 p.m.

Bach’s Lunch for Thursday, January 20, 12 – 2 p.m., features a new commission titled Beneath the Painted Skies, composed by Dr. Dominic Dousa and Dr. James Logan, at the El Paso Museum of Art.

Violinist Helen Hwaya Kim and Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey perform the powerful Brahms Double Concerto, at the Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall, Sunday, January 23, 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Violinist Kurt Nikkanen and his wife, Steinway Piano artist Maria Asteriadou, perform new compositions from Latin America and Spain, during Bach’s Lunch at the El Paso Museum of Art, Thursday, January 27, 12 – 2 p.m. They will repeat the performance with an extended festival version at the Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall, Friday, January 28, 7:30 – 9 p.m.

Jazz Pianist Matt Herskowitz combines his technique as a classical virtuoso with his prowess in jazz and world music during two shows back-to-back. The first takes place at the Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall on Tuesday, March 29, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., the second in Las Cruces, Wednesday, March 30, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Exact location of the Las Cruces show is TBA.

The festival concludes with an epic occasion: Re-United, a twenty-year reunion between award-winning pianist Awadagin Pratt and cellist Zuill Bailey. Having hosted Pratt as his first featured concert back in 2002, Bailey brings him back for another performance together, to celebrate his 20th anniversary as Artistic Director.

Tickets range from $25 for single events to $125 for festival passes. To find out more, or to purchase ticket packages, visit the website, or call 915-747-8163.
