The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM) has a busy month in April, although this nonprofit is always actively engaged — and engaging others — in supporting a multi-county region. There are several events in April and even more coming up after that.

CFSNM is finally in its new home and is holding a grand opening Saturday, April 9. The event is being held to introduce the public to both their new facility in the former Cutter Gallery at El Paseo and University and to the many services provided by this nonprofit organization. And there will be tacos! The theme is “Let’tuce Taco ‘Bout Community” and runs from 4 to 9 p.m. There will be music by Latin Funktion Project from 5 to 8. All-inclusive tickets are $50 per person, which will cover live music, tours, entertainment, tacos, and refreshments. For $25 you can enjoy the music and the event . . . and buy your own tacos if you get hungry. Get your tickets here.

100 Who Give

Next up is 100 Who Give on Thursday, April 21. The goal of this unique event is to gather 100 people who each donate $100 during a 100-minute-long event. At the gathering, which takes place at the home of a community host, each person donates $100 and nominates a favorite cause by writing a suggestion on a slip of paper. Three of the charitable projects are drawn and the nominators each give a pitch for why their idea should be selected. Then, everyone votes and the project with the most votes gets up to $10,000 (100 attendees times $100 each!). Click here for information on the April event.

If you can’t make the April 100 Who Give, plan ahead for July 21 or September 21.

CFSNM’s President and CEO Terra Winter says that while many of the winning projects are area nonprofit organizations, it doesn’t have to be. The proceeds of this event have been donated to help flood victims and for COVID relief in the past.

Southern New Mexico Giving Day

Not resting for even a day, CFSNM gets back to work at midnight for Southern New Mexico Giving Day, Friday, April 22. During this annual event, 50 nonprofit organizations sign up to be supported in a 24-hour period. CFSNM pledges to match up to $500 for each of them, as does the United Way. Go to snmgivingday.org on April 22 to donate to your favorite charity and have it matched by CFSNM and the United Way.
