Those who love to sample delicious food will be glad to know that the 15th Annual Men Who Cook fundraiser, benefiting Mesilla Valley Hospice, is right around the corner! This means the area’s most talented community leaders, businesspeople, local celebrities, and supporters will be showcasing their culinary skills for a wonderful cause. All this and more, including appetizing auctions, exquisite entertainment, and scrumptious samples, will be part of the toothsome Men Who Cook fundraiser taking place at the Las Cruces Convention Center on Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 6 – 10 p.m.
What Men Who Cook is All About
This choice culinary event, which has been delighting foodies for more than a decade, brought in an estimated 800 supporters last year, though hopes are high to increase that number for this year’s mouthwatering milestone. Proceeds for this year’s piquant philanthropic enterprise go to Mesilla Valley Hospice’s charity fund, which helps pay for services to patients and families who don’t have insurance or are under-insured. Aspiring chefs are all lined up, but those aren’t the only ingredients necessary to give this gratifying event its full flavor. Hungry appetites are also on the menu to make this year’s gourmandization even more enticing.
Known as one of the most enjoyable, and satisfying, events in Las Cruces, Men Who Cook is also one of the city’s largest and most filling fundraising events. “It’s a really fun event — it’s a place to eat a lot of great food, find fellowship, and support an excellent organization in the community,” says Lorraine Padilla, MVH Foundation executive director. “Staci Mays and her staff at Las Cruces Event Planning bring everything together for a wonderful, entertaining event.”
The Men Who Cook chefs are the biggest draw, of course. “Our chefs have so much fun doing this event,” says Staci. “We put them together in facility kitchens where they have a ball prepping their food in a very friendly competitive environment. We make it very easy to participate, standing by to help every step of the way.” Chefs are allowed to bring one kitchen helper (who are sometimes wives who “help” with the cooking) to prepare delicious treats for everyone.
Getting Involved
What does it take to become involved in this mouthwatering event? All you have to do is bring your appetite, and a few friends or family members to help you eat and enjoy the fun. Food categories include appetizers, side dishes, main dishes, and desserts, so you’ve got the full spectrum of gastronomical goodies to sample. Auctions and live entertainment will only help to enhance the flavors of this epicurean experience. Tickets are currently on sale for $100 per person, but you’ll have to visit Mesilla Valley Hospice at 299 Montana Avenue, in Las Cruces, to get yours. The only question left is, what are you waiting for?
“Participation is open to anyone — young, not so young, beginner, or master chef,” says Lorraine. “It’s all about having a great time and supporting a wonderful organization. It’s a true family affair; a little competition, lots of laughs, and great food that never runs out!”
About Mesilla Valley Hospice
Since 1982, Mesilla Valley Hospice has provided end-of-life care 24 hours a day for patients that have been diagnosed with an illness that limits their life expectancy to six months or less. Care is provided in a variety of settings, including the patient’s home, a nursing home, a hospital, an assisted living facility, or the organization’s in-patient unit, La Posada. The goal is to enable patients to continue a pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last months may be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by their loved ones.
