An Opportunity for Young Artists in Las Cruces

Are you a young artist in Las Cruces ready to take your talents to the next level? New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) in Santa Fe offers an unmatched opportunity for students across the state to receive pre-professional arts training alongside a strong academic education. As the only four-year, statewide public high school focused on the arts, NMSA welcomes students from all corners of the state, including Southern New Mexico.

A One-of-a-Kind Arts and Academic Education

Students in grades 9–12 receive intensive instruction in Creative Writing & Literature, Dance, Music, Theatre, or Visual Arts from professional artists and master teachers. Each day, they dedicate three hours to their chosen art form, balancing artistic development with a rigorous academic curriculum.

For Students Outside of Santa Fe

Students from Las Cruces and other areas more than 65 miles from Santa Fe can live on campus through NMSA’s Residential Program, which provides a safe and supportive environment for young artists to thrive. Opened in 2024 in Santa Fe’s Railyard District, this state-of-the-art facility makes it possible for students across New Mexico to attend NMSA.

  • Five-Day Option: Housing during the school week for students living more than 65 miles from Santa Fe.
  • Seven-Day Option: Full-time housing for students living more than 125 miles away, including weekends.

Financial assistance may be available for qualifying students. You can find more information about this and the residential program here.

A Community of Artists and Scholars

Since opening in 2010, NMSA has become one of New Mexico’s top-performing schools, bringing together students from over 40 communities and pueblos. It’s a place where young artists can develop their talents, challenge themselves academically, and prepare for their creative futures.
