Meet Double Eagle

Known as the Crown Jewel of Old Mesilla, the Double Eagle is a historic hacienda-style home turned authentic New Mexican restaurant by day and fine dining steakhouse by night. The home was built in 1849 for the Maese family. Its Imperial Bar, grand dining room, and individual dining rooms make the Double Eagle an experience all its own. The Double Eagle has the only temperature- and climate-controlled meat aging room in the region and has earned the title of Best Steakhouse in New Mexico for many years.

The restaurant gets some of its reputation from its haunting past. When Señora Maese found her son and one of the servants together in his room, she killed them both in a rage. The couple’s ghosts are said to still be in the home today and most of the activity can be experienced in the Carlotta Room where they died.

Ambiance aside, both Pepper’s and Double Eagle serve delicious cuisine along with an extensive award-winning wine list, handcrafted cocktails, and more! Experience Historic Old Mesilla the right way, at the Double Eagle.

Double Eagle Celebrates 50 Years

In 2023, the Double Eagle is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Established in 1973, the Double Eagle has been a prominent fixture in the culturally rich town and has earned the reputation of being the crown jewel of Mesilla.

The Double Eagle Restaurant is renowned for its elegant decor, historic ambiance, and exceptional cuisine which features a blend of classic New Mexican and continental dishes. The restaurant has received numerous accolades over the years, including being named one of the top 10 restaurants in the state by USA Today.

The restaurant is housed in the historic Guadalupe Street building, which dates back to 1850, and the elegant decor and architecture of the building make for a truly unique dining experience.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 50 years of serving our community and visitors from around the world,” said Buddy Ritter, Owner of the Double Eagle. “We owe our success to our amazing staff, loyal customers, and the rich history of the Mesilla Valley. It’s an honor to be a part of this wonderful community.”

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the Double Eagle is offering special promotions throughout the year, including a commemorative menu featuring signature dishes from the past 50 years. A 50th celebration dinner and dance will be held Saturday, September 9. The special evening will feature exclusive presentations, live music and entertainment.
