Beat the summer heat and head up to the cool pines for the 39th Annual Cloudcroft July Jamboree Arts & Crafts Show. The event takes place at Zenith Park in Cloudcroft Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Cloudcroft tradition for close to four decades, this outdoor show boasts not only arts & crafts, but also music, food and activities for the entire family. There’s even a staged melodrama Saturday night, presented by the Cloudcroft Light Opera Company. With ample parking and seating, the fair is a treat for your ears as well as your eyes!
“We’ve got so many unique booths this year,” says Cindy (“just Cindy”) at the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce. “We’ve got pottery, jewelry, metal working, tie dye clothing, paper crafting, leather art, acrylics, crochet, wood working, pottery from the Acoma Pueblo, we even have a lady who takes things you would normally throw away and upcycles them into handbags, they’re really neat!” When it comes to food, Cindy says they’ve got that covered too, with fry bread, Mexican elótes, lemonade, shaved ice, kettle corn, baked goods and more.
Two things to take note of, according to Cindy are “The Cloudcroft FFA team has qualified for nationals – the first time in Cloudcroft history that this has happened – and they will be in the park fundraising,” and “you don’t want to miss the melodrama. it’s called The Hustle and it is hilarious! Oh my lord, I almost wet myself laughing, it was so funny!”
There is no charge for the festival, or the melodrama. As added incentive, the boutique shops in historic downtown Cloudcroft will also be open all weekend, as will the town museum which is across the street from the park. For more information, call 575-682-2733, or visit the website.
