The Doña Ana Arts Council’s July gallery show is an explosion of mixed media created by seven artists titled Playful Boundaries. The artists joined in this exhibit by Beloved Community, a non-profit organization that builds community by engaging the gifts of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Viewers will be enchanted by whimsical sculpture, fiber art, cloth mâché, encaustic paintings and small works fashioned by kitchen items and household hardware. Featured in the show are Karen Zibert, Carrie Greer, Greta Burger, Jan French, Lisa Riley, Heather Murphy and Jan Thune.
Beloved Community is sharing their final project titled Whimsical Way, based on the children’s book The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Manis Pinkwater. Over 45 community members of all ages and abilities helped transform Neat Street into Whimsical Way. Participants were provided papier mâché houses and encouraged to decorate them to reflect their unique selves. The houses were then incorporated into a beautiful and collective piece by Dorothy Zitler.
Playful Boundaries runs July 1 – 31, 2021, in the Doña Ana Arts & Cultural Center, located at 250 W. Amador. The center is open during business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. For more information visit the website or call 575-523-6403.
